Gas Leak Detectors in Kenya: Protect Your Home — Permalli Gas Suppliers

A gas leak detector is one of the most important safety devices for any Kenyan home or business that uses LPG. It monitors the air for gas concentration and sounds an alarm before a leak becomes dangerous, giving you time to act.

This guide explains how gas leak detectors work, verified prices, what to look for when buying, and how to order online from Permalli Gas Suppliers, an EPRA Certified Hub (#THK-0842) based in Ngoingwa Estate, Thika, Kiambu County.

How a Gas Leak Detector Works

A gas leak detector continuously samples the air around your kitchen or cylinder storage area. If LPG concentration rises above a preset threshold—such as 5% of the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL)—the device triggers:

  • An audible siren (typically 85dB or higher)
  • A flashing LED warning light

This early warning allows you to turn off the regulator, ventilate the room, and avoid using electrical switches or open flames.

What to Look for in a Gas Leak Detector

  1. Detection threshold. A detector that alerts at low LPG concentration gives you more time to respond.
  2. Alarm volume. An 85dB siren is audible throughout most homes.
  3. Visual alert. A flashing LED helps in noisy environments or for hearing-impaired users.
  4. Power source. Confirm whether the detector is battery-powered or mains-powered.
  5. Installation. Mount it near the floor or cylinder area, as LPG is heavier than air and settles low.
